Memo to boss: Please remember to communicate with your own staff first

SOMETIMES your own staff can be the last to know what is going on.
So is it any wonder if sometimes they don’t want to put the business first?
Failing to communicate properly within your own organisation is no way to build a committed, enthusiastic workforce ready to go the extra mile.
But keeping your employees in the loop, hearing what they say and then translating it into action, requires time, attention and, most of all, commitment.
It also requires an integrated approach, which joins together your media coverage with your company annual report with your MD’s latest lecture and the lightning-fast world of the web, with a whole range of ways to communicate effectively with your own people.
Emails, web-links, feedback forms, updates and reports, newsletters and magazines can all help create an inclusive conversation.
But have you thought creatively about the benefits of team briefings, seminars, roadshows and conferences, award entries and in-house Oscars?
New social networks, blogs and the internet open up even more revolutionary possibilities for creating genuine engagement, interactivity and empowerment amongst your own staff.
We think that’s something to be valued for its own sake.
