Sound Communication was founded by Matt Finnegan, a former Manchester Evening News journalist and director of communications for Liverpool.
He set up Sound as a social enterprise as a values-based alternative to the more traditional PR and communications agencies.
After six successful years at Liverpool, Matt wanted to work with organisations and people that shared decent values and were not motivated by greed or making money.
He says: “I wanted to help people and organisations who were trying to change things for the better.
“Of course, we all have to make a living and put food on the table. But there has got to be more to life than the pursuit of profit or money at all costs.
“Sound Communication is the vehicle for trying to bring a more ethical, values-driven approach to business, where there is room for at least trying to do good things – and helping to make the world a better place. We make no apology for that.”
Sound offers a range of marketing and communication services, including web and graphic design, media and public relations, social networks, consultation and training, as well as strategic communications counsel.
The company is made up of a loose collective of communications professionals who want to make a difference.
As a Community Interest Company (CIC), Sound Communication is an independently-regulated social enterprise, run co-operatively.
Profits go back into the business and to support people and organisations who share progressive values.
Those values include supporting social and economic progress, human rights and respect for the environment.
Matt Finnegan said: “We are not naive ‘do-gooders’ – we have worked very successfully in some of the toughest media and communications environments.
“Nor are we holier than thou. We know how the world works – we just want it to work better. And to help make a difference.”
